Ruth Douthwright is a Canadian dance artist, Somatic Movement Educator and Mother.

Formative years informed by studies and collaborations with her mother Anna and extended community in sacred, folkloric dances, storytelling and music which continues to influence her ongoing research, performance projects and teaching.

Continued studies and research took her to EDCM Montreal, Traditional Theatre Training at The Kyoto Arts Center & The Body Weather Farm in Japan, Axis Syllabus International, Espace Catastrophe Belgium and Laban England.

Ongoing research and multidisciplinary research and performance with Sweet Labour Art Collective (formally) Strange Strangers, Public Displays of Art and more recently This Body of Work with The Sense Archive.

For over a decade Ruth has collaborated in research, practice and education with the International Axis Syllabus community and The Body Braid movement projects teaching internationally.

In collaboration with The London Arts Council, Ruth developed and continues to deliver and facilitate arts programming for people with a wide range of physical and intellectual abilities and disabilities - The Art of Remembering at McCormick Dementia Services, Togethering with L’arche and Participation House, Recovery Through the Arts at Parkwood Mental Health.

Ruth is currently developing programming with Dr Sarah Kim and Dr Kevin O’Connor for Unity Health Toronto. Mindful Movement & Meditation: Somatic movement practices and resources with a special focus on support for breast cancer patients based on her diagnosis, process and ongoing rehabilitation.
